marija kovačina is a film editor, multimedia artist and musician based in Belgrade, Serbia. Coming from a multimedia engineering background, she utilises a spectrum of skills in her diverse approach to the visual arts. Her primary fields are documentary filmmaking, editing and directing for independent cinema as well as commercial and television productions.

Marija completed her undergraduate and graduate studies in Belgrade at the Academy of Technical and Art Applied Studies School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. She served as the president of the European Students' Section of the Audio Engineering Society (AES) from 2012 to 2014. Marija has years of experience as a freelance sound engineer, recording music and designing sound for film and theater. She is competent in all aspects of the production process, from project development to post production supervision and has repeatedly shown her skills can elevate audio and visual projects of all kinds.

From 2016 to 2019, Marija worked at Students’ City Cultural Center as a camera operator, editor and technical director of international film festivals such as the “Alternative Film Festival” and “Balkanima”. In 2019, she began working with the Panorama Films collective as an editor and director. Her filmography work has been featured in film festivals all over the world. She is a member of eho animato, a performing arts and multimedia practices research collective. Her main role is that of a creative technology designer, combining her practical skills with her creative sense. She is an associated artist with CultureHub New York.

Stepping out from behind the scenes, Marija has a strong background as a musician and performer. Her interest in theatre started in high school when she joined an independent, physical theatre troupe as a performer and musician. She started VJ-ing at concerts and parties, which eventually turned her to multimedia and digital theater practice. She is a multiinstrumentalist and singer. She performed for several years with the celebrated Belgrade concept band, VIS Limunada. Additionally, Marija is a member of the Society of Film Editors of Serbia and an alumna of Talents Sarajevo 2017, among others. She is always seeking to add new skills to her roster. As of 2024, Marija is a licensed drone operator.
